“HERMAN BEING”

FREE DOWNLOAD.. the song is the first to be released by “DeBourge & Couts” which is a collaboration between Andrew Couts and Martin DeBourge. Special guest saxophonist Igor Grdic.

Herman Being” is lyrically based on a scene in Richard Danziger’s book “The Musical Ascent of Herman Being”
where, at the starting point of Herman’s new journey’s into music, he finds himself falling for a girl named “Jean” – no spoilers here tho, go get the book 😉

LYRICS:

Knockin on the door in the mornin
I never expected you
Three eggs and a promise of breakfast
The sky isn’t even blue

Wont you
Come In
Sit down
And then

We talk of being warm and cozy
awkwardly teasing fate
We forget about eggs in the morning
Don’t care if it’s getting late

Talking To Myself

FREE DOWNLOAD …the song is the second to be released by “DeBourge & Couts” which is a collaboration between Andrew Couts and Martin DeBourge. Special guest guitarist, Jeremy Jimison.

“Talking To Myself” was tracked and edited a little differently in that once I pressed “record” for the vocals, I let it roll to the end… with no stop/starts. So whatever the mic picked up, I kept. The simple “I need to know, the direction the wind blows” was a melody that just “came out” – all that was done afterwards was some additional vocal layering – but all else was kept, not editing out anything on the main vocal track..

I got to know, the direction the wind blows

FREE DOWNLOAD …this song is the third to be released by “DeBourge & Couts” which is a collaboration between Andrew Couts and Martin DeBourge.  Special guest guitarist, France’s own Daniel Glikmans.

“Ella Wheeler” is a haunting track, and rightfully so due to it’s subject. Ella Wheeler Wilcox was an American poet who led a very interesting life. Beyond her body of poetry work, she and her husband dabbled in what was then known as “The New Thought Movement”. The couple even made a pact that should one pass on before they other, the one who passed on would communicate with the living spouse.
When her husband died, and apparently failed to keep his promise, Ella set out West to meet with Max Heindel, the leader of the Rosicrucian Philosophy in California to inquire as to why she had not heard from her dead beloved.

everyday, since that meeting, Ella muttered a mantra she wrote. A portion of which is quoted in the song you are about to hear.
“I am the living witness: The dead live: And they speak through us and to us: And I am the voice that gives this glorious truth to the suffering world: I am ready, God: I am ready, Christ: I am ready, Robert.”.

As well, a quote from her poem “Time’s Defeat” is quoted in this song. Do yourself a favor and grab her completed works. Truly moving poetry: The Essential Ella Wheeler Wilcox Poetry Collection

…the song is the fourth to be released by “DeBourge & Couts” which is a collaboration between Andrew Couts and Martin DeBourge. Special guest guitarist on this track is Tony Massaro of Torman Maxt.

“The Sink” is a song inspired by a documentary I saw called “The Phase” in which a lucid dreamer is shown how to enter that state of slumber. The references are directly my own experiences, including “the sink” which always appears in “my room” – the symbolism to a “sink” where i fall into dream state is of course intentional.

At the end of the song, I struggled with lyrical content for several days – and then one night found myself singing the lines to a popular System of a Down song…. it just worked, so I kept it.

LYRICS:
A floating precipice – high up in the sky
How it got here, I don’t know
But I find myself climbing higher
until
I reach a branch to help me up
I sit upon a tiled floor
I still look around to make sure, I am alone

Again the sink is the only thing here
If I’m honest there’s a tinge of fear
But I’ve grown used to it, being here
It’s always here

Lotus Skies – I close my eyes – I see it all

And now I fall
The sink

Wake up, grab a brush, put a little make up
hide the scars to fade away the shakeup
Why’d you leave the keys upon the table
Here you go, create another fable
You wanted to

Ho’oponopono is is the fifth song to be released by “DeBourge & Couts” which is a collaboration between Andrew Couts and Martin DeBourge.  Special guest keyboardist on this track is Lisa LaRue know for her collaborations with members of Spocks Beard, ARZ, John Payne’s Asia, Saga & Elvis (yes, Elvis).

Ho’oponopono is an ancient Hawaiian practice of reconciliation and forgiveness. Similar forgiveness practices were performed on islands throughout the South Pacific, including Samoa, Tahiti and New Zealand. The repetition in this particular track is intentional, as it is a form of a mantra of sorts.

LYRICS:

I’m sorry
Please forgive me
Thank you
I love you

To you divine creator
To Family and friends
To you brothers and sisters
If I offended you

I’m sorry
Please forgive me
Thank you
I love you

Through all time and creation
I ask your forgiveness
For thoughts words and actions
That have offended you

I’m sorry
Please forgive me
Thank you
I love you

I love you the way you are
If I have hurt you in any way
I ask your forgiveness
thank you for our heart

I’m sorry
Please forgive me
thank you
I love you

FREE DOWNLOAD! This song is the sixth to be released by “DeBourge & Couts” which is a collaboration between Andrew Couts and Martin DeBourge. Special guest on oud intro, Edward Thomas Magicthighs Motter-Vlahakos (not kidding, that’s his real session moniker) and Joni Fuller on outro orchestration.

LYRICS:

I wanna fly above the clouds
to see a different point of view
But I know to see that way
I’ll have to go high
high
high
high

FREE DOWNLOAD! This song is the seventh to be released by “DeBourge & Couts” which is a collaboration between Andrew Couts and Martin DeBourge. Special guest on trumpet, Chris Davis. He’s worked with the likes of Orbert Davis’ Chicago Jazz Philharmonic, Dennis Edwards’ The Temptations Review, Phil Tarver, Ron Kenoly, the Clarke Sisters, Mary Wilson of the Supremes, and Motown group The Four Tops.

LYRICS:

You would meet me down the street
Pick me up for our great escape
Long drives to the waffle house
Argue over songs along the way

Walking Colorado Blvd
Talk philosophy and being large someday
I could see it in your eyes that night
You were only wanting me to stay

This was never meant to be
This is not a melody for us
I never meant to cause you pain
I wish I gave you time to adjust

Then we moved, but it wasn’t far
Missing conversation in the car ride
You were falling, but I was gone
Wanting more, but I’m withdrawn
