SUPERIOR VOCAL HEALTH

HERBS FOR THE VOICE AND THROAT

Having met and spent time with author David Aaron Katz, I came into the book knowing it would not be a “quick fix” or “snake oil” type publication. David is an accomplished singer himself. A believer in hard work and practice, practice, practice. No nature food will suddenly make you a great singer, and this author is not purporting that. He has spent countless years in research for everything he promotes. I already had a suspicion this material would be good, if not great.

I was mistaken. The material is invaluable.

It’s a self proclaimed Guide to Herbs, Supplements, and Diet for the Voice Professional. Although it’s more of a reference resource, I found myself reading it like a chapter book  from cover to cover because it was so fascinatingly useful.

Nothing worries a gigging vocalist more, than to wake up the day before the big show with heavy congestion, laryngitis or the flu. What is one to do? Cancelling the gig is not an option. If only their were an herbal remedy to at least get me through the show. Well, there is. And it’s not a mythical concoction brewed in the skull of a unicorn on some far away mountain top in Tibet. It’s as easy as a cup of tea with some select ingredients readily available at your local market or health food store.

Don’t expect the standard “he just stole this information off an internet site and complied it in a book”… nope, David not only researched the information himself – he tried each and every one of the herbs and supplements himself. This is a book by a singer, for singers.

It’s no exaggeration that I have two copies of this book. One I keep at the ready in my desk drawer. The other I keep in my car – so that when I stop at a farmers market or store specializing in herbs, I can quickly cross reference and see what David has to say about Bayberry, Hyssop or even Horseradish.

I can also PERSONALLY attest to the effectiveness of his “Flu Buster Brew” which bailed me out of the looming flu bug that hit me hard the night before a gig.

It’s cliche to say “if you own only one book, it should be this one”… but the fact is, if you take your voice, and therefore your throat seriously. Then this book is a must have.
